Summertime at the ranch

We spend as much time up at the ranch as we can, especially in the summertime, and this year was no exception. We have lots more cattle than in years past, and had 5 calves born within a couple of weeks of each other. That was definitely exciting!

We had our annual Back to School BBQ the weekend before school started. We always have a good turnout, and its so easy to entertain the masses up there, we love doing it. It rained before people showed up and we were worried it would rain on us, but it ended up being a perfect night, complete with this double rainbow!

These are a low-line breed (I don't know all of the technical terms, but they are a smaller, shorter breed of cow) and their calves are soooo tiny. Like the size of a dog.

I've lost track of how many cows we have now, because we keep getting more here and there. But we've had lots of days of checking on them (and Wes and his dad have had lots of days of finding cows when they get out/fixing fences/etc.), a few days of branding/castrating/inoculating. The kids are learning a lot, and I'm so glad this business is a part of their life.
