Back to School BBQ 2018

Every year for the past three or four years we have had a Back to School BBQ up at the ranch. Typically we do it the first Friday night that school is back in session, and then whoever wants to can spend the night camping afterward. We invite as many people as we can think of-each year it gets a little bigger.
Right before we started eating, it started pouring, and not just pouring but hailing. We made a mad dash to get all of the food under the ramada. Luckily it didn't last long, and it still made for a an enjoyable evening, with lots of good food and good company. I feel like each year runs a little smoother, and I have it kind of down to a science now.

We love being able to use the ranch to invite so many friends and family up for a good time. The adults sit around and chat all night while the kids run around in wild abandon.

We stayed overnight and enjoyed the next day, until we had to pack up around lunch time to make in home in time to leave again for our Trek reunion dance in Holbrook. Camping is always better with friends.

When the older kids want to do real riding, they won't saddle Coconut, and will take the horses over to the pasture by the gravel pit to check on the cows.

Typically when all of the kids want to ride horses, Wes and Hallie and Jaxson will go saddle everyone up (usually Chet, Rusty, Hercules, and Coconut-but this day they saddled Peanut). Wes and the older kids will take turns riding around the property while I help the little kids take short turns on Coconut.

This was Peanut's first time getting ridden. She did pretty good. I was so worried that Wes would get bucked off, but the opposite happened and she didn't want to go.

They all fell asleep on the short ride home.
