Hallie's Garden 2018

Hallie decided to plant a garden as one of her 10 hour projects for Personal Progress. She quickly learned that it would take much longer than 10 hours to see it through. She picked out seeds and a few plants in May and started growing them inside the sunroom before transplanting them to the garden space she created in the yard (where we previously had some serious spider-filled and pollen-filled bushes). She consulted with a couple of people who have had many gardens about what to plant, where to plant, etc. She decided to plant cucumbers, bell peppers, broccoli, corn, pumpkins, lettuce (can't remember what kind), watermelon, and cantaloupe. She tried to plant things that she knew we would eat.

We had one of the hottest and driest Junes ever, and we thought her garden was going to die, nothing as growing and it didn't seem to ever get enough water. Once the monsoon hit in July she didn't have to water near as often and the plants really started to take off with all the rain.

Hallie got 8 decent sized pumpkins out of her garden. They were kind of small to carve, so we carved a couple and painted the rest. It was the perfect amount, every one got one they got to decide what to do with.
